Melanie Hoo is a local custom jewelry designer who needs to start photographing her work for her new website and other marketing materials. Her work is very tribal and organic but her marketing will be very clean so we shot high key on white.

Back in the studio.... This time I was shooting some gift baskets and wine for Hubbell & Hudson.
These were shot on white seamless for use in their catalog.

I got to shoot a few new pieces of jewelry from Charmed Circle last week. Shot on white background for easy placement into the website, and high key lighting for maximum sparkle and punchy color.

Stopped by the AudioBob Sound Studio last week to shoot the main recording studio and booth.

I was recently approached by a musician/fine artist friend of mine. He wanted to paint a self portrait of himself so he asked me if I wouldn't mind taking a couple of shots of him with his guitar. So we went into the studio for a couple hours and had some fun! Most of these were a 3 light setup using Alien Bees strobes and various modifiers, and they were all shot against white seamless paper which can be made any shade of gray depending in how close you are to it. I shot with both the Leica M9 and the Nikon D700 during this session.

I needed a table for Product Photography and commercially available tables like those from Bogen/Manfrotto (one of the cheaper ones) are pretty expensive. So I decided to try making my own and what you see here is the results. I didn't keep track of every little part that was used, but these pics should show enough for you to duplicate it on your own. All the tubing is 1.25" white pvc pipe and it's held together by aluminum pipe fittings from www.mcmaster.com, including the adjustable angle ones used to change the angle of the back sweep on the table. The top is a 48"x80" sheet of 1/8" translucent white plexiglass (from Regal Plastics here in Houston, TX) and is held to the pvc frame with some white metal clips. The clips are the only thing I can't give you a source for because they were leftover from the original Bogen/Manfrotto table I use at another studio. You may be able to get these direct from them, or find a suitable replacement. You could drill holes through the plexi and bolt it to the pvc pipe, but I like that the clips make it easier to remove.

FINALLY. A real studio space. A lot of my shooting is done on location, but my product photography needs a studio setting and it will be nice to finally have a dedicated space. The studio is located at the Hardy & Nance Street Studios on the edge of downtown Houston. Last Concert Cafe, Spaghetti Warehouse, Dakota Lofts... just a few of the more well known landmarks within walking distance. Not only are there plenty of great artists occupying other studios within the same building, but I will be sharing this particular studio with another local and talented artist, Celeste a.k.a "Stella Rose" http://tinyurl.com/2ecbj9d Here's a few teaser pics of the new space.
